As a gateway to Los Angeles County, with Long Beach as a close neighbor, Rossmoor's history is steeped in the aircraft industry that served WWII, and one of the first military posts in Orange County. Although unincorporated, Rossmoor uses the Los Alamitos mailing address and also takes advantage of the great youth programs it has to offer.

The U.S. Navy moved its training field to the area after the attacks on Pearl Harbor.
